History of the Games
The 5th Children of Asia International Sports Games are held in compliance with the decision of the President of the Russian Federation with the aim of promoting ideas of the Olympic movement, developing children and youth sports and strengthening international cooperation in sports.
The 1st Children of Asia Games were held in Yakutsk in 1996 and were dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the modern Olympic Games.
The Games will be held under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee from July 4 to July 16, 2012, in cities of Yakutsk, Mirny and Neryungri of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
The general coordination of preparing and holding the Games will be implemented by the Administration of the Children of Asia International Sports Games.
The previous four Games hosted more than 5,000 young sportsmen from more than 20 countries of Asia and 27 regions of Russia. Participants of the held Games later became champions and winners of championships of Europe and the world, as well as in the Olympic Games.
The program of the 5th Games will include 20 kinds of sports. For the first time Swimming and Sambo have been included in the Games, as well Freestyle Wrestling among handicapped sportsmen.
Yakutia is known for its mineral resources, rich nature and unique original culture. Its territory is equal to that of 5 Frances or 13 Great Britains.
